Close Encounters of the Moose Kind

March 16th, 2010 Mike Criss 2 comments

We get moose in our yard all the time. Sunday we had 3 come for a visit to our Wasilla, Alaska home. A mom and her twins came to spend the afternoon. I decided to let Donner out to see how he would react. He wasn’t barking or acting aggressively(he never does). The male moose was very interested in him though and put his head over the fence to sniff him. I think Donner thought they were big dogs because he wanted out into the yard and play.

2010 Fur Rondy Dog Races

February 27th, 2010 Mike Criss 2 comments

I love photographing dogs. I wanted to photograph the 2010 Fur Rondy Dog Races, but did not want to fight the downtown crowds where they start. The race winds through Anchorage’s trail system for 25 miles so I hiked down to a spot on the trail and set up. Fortunately, I had all my arctic gear on or I would have froze. Photographing snow can be challenging depending on the lighting conditions.
